A new shop, a new start

A new shop, a new start

After several years of selling on Etsy, I decided I wanted my own place to sell my items. Having my own site allows for so much more options in terms of customization and flexibility, but don't worry: whether you find me on Etsy or buy something on this hop, you will receive the exact same mask and service for the exact same price.

One of the differences with Etsy is that here I can write and show a bit more of what I do in a sort of blog-style. For the first one, it made sense to show how it all starts;

The new chapter in my hobby felt like the perfect moment to add some gear to my existing set-up. I have several types 3D-printers, but at the core of the fleet is the Prusa MK3 I bought several years ago. I'm not in any way affiliated with them, but it's one of the best products I own to make this all work. So when it came to picking a new toy, it wasn't much of a contest.

So you order a printer, now what?

Well, then you build it (unless you have too much money and buy it assembled, but where's the challenge in that?)

So life of a new printer starts in a box. Quite a nice, neat collection of smaller boxes, filled with endless bags of screws, metal parts, plastic parts and electronics. 349 parts, to be exact. So basically, it's IKEA+, but luckily, the manual is muuuch better! So off you go, buidling parts and before long, it will look like something;

As it's not the first one I've built, it took me about 6-8 hours to do the whole thing. If you have never done it, best take it slow and it'll take maybe 12-15 hours. Sometimes, during the process, it will feel like open heart surgery;

But keep at it, and step by step it will arise from the pile of parts. The beauty of this machine is how rugged and decent it all is. Jam-packed with sensors, it rarely fails. When I started out, I had to throw away tons of parts because of layershifts or separation from the printbed. These machines are by no means perfect, but failure rates are so much lower while the print quality is significantly higher, that it absolutely warrants the higher price. You eventually end up with a very nice new toy;
